Update Following The Shooters Hill Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panel Meeting
The latest Shooters Hill Ward Panel meeting was held on 13 July, when board members consisting of representatives from communities across the Shooters Hill Ward met with the Shooters Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team to discuss key policing issues and concerns, and agree safer neighbourhood policing priorities for the forthcoming eight weeks. Updates on key police activities included:
• burglaries down 13% and vehicle crime 36% down since the last ward panel meeting on 11 May
• arrests were made in Woolwich Common of members of the 'Woolwich Boys' gang and other people who breached their ASBOs, with five people wanted for carrying our serious offences
• a recent weapons search of Barnfield Estate revealed no new weapons and the CCTV camera on the estate is proving a great success
• two people were arrested in Oxleas Wood for offences against public decency. The team are investigating the possible use of the Community Payback scheme to help clean up the woods of associated paraphernalia
• one motorbike was seized from a 16-year old riding illegally
Sergeant Barry Edge confirmed the issues of speeding drivers around Shooters Hill could be tackled by getting the traffic division of the Met Police involved, but this will only happen if more residents call the issues in. We need your help in calling any issues of speeding drivers, logging the date, time and registration numbers. And distraction burglaries are on the increase, with reports of criminals pretending to represent Greenwich Association of Disabled People (GAD).
Do you bit and remain vigilant. Do not let strangers in to your home and always ask for identification. Help the police to ensure our communities are a safe, secure and pleasant places to live in. Call it in. If you see something unusual, or someone acting suspiciously - call it in. Don't delay - if you witness something taking place there and then dial 999. If something has happened recently contact the Shooters Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team to provide your valuable information and intelligence. The panel is continuing work to update its constitution and improve the meeting format and agenda.
