New Shooters Hill Ward Councillors focus on key issues and activities
In May 2010 the Shooters Hill Ward said a fond farewell to Councillor Denise Hyland who moved on to her new role in Abbey Wood. Denise was re-elected to the Cabinet and retained her old portfolio of Enterprise and Skills, adding a new area to her expertise - Regeneration. With Denise's skills, determination and commitment to the residents and businesses of the Shooters Hill area, she was key in helping to tackle issues and formed part of the many problem solving initiatives
With Denise moving on to pastures new, the Shooters Hill Ward welcomes Councillors Danny Thorpe, Barry Taylor and Jagir Sekhon. Danny was re-elected, continuing in his role as councillor and said: "On behalf of the Shooters Hill Ward councillors, I would firstly like to say a huge thank you to you all for giving myself the chance to continue to serve as your councillor in this fantastic area, as well as giving Councillors Taylor and Sekhon the chance to join the team. We, along with Clive Efford your local MP, are proud to have been elected and thank you for trusting us with the important task of representing all the residents of Shooters Hill."
Since the election, the team have been very busy in a number of key local areas including the redevelopment of Eaglesfield Park and creating an Olympic legacy. Danny confirmed: "The Council wants to make the park even better and we are aiming to have this listed as a Green Flag park by 2012. One of our proposals includes possibly installing some outdoor fitness equipment in the park. We are working closely with residents groups, the Friends groups as well as the wider community to get views on this. We have worked with local community groups and lobbied for, and secured, a community notice board which will shortly be installed in the park."
The councillors attended the annual Eaglesfield Park Neighbourhood Watch Scheme Community Fete held on 12 June which provided them with an opportunity to meet a large number of the public.
Building and maintaining positive relationships with the Shooters Hill Safer Neighbourhood Police Team is key to the councillors and Danny confirmed: "We continue to develop close links with our local police team and are very fortunate to have such good officers within it. They have helped us deal successfully with a number of incidents over the past few months, from anti social behaviour through to abandoned cars.
The team are working with the Shooters Hill Against the Mast community group and are supporting their work.
Get in touch with the councillors if there are any community safety issues you would like to raise. They are available to support residents and can be contacted by phone, email or by visiting them at their 'surgeries' which are held in Shrewsbury House and the Slade library. Due to the redevelopment of Slade library there will be some changes to venue and times.
